Some of the unlockable costumes featured in the games are actually based on characters from other Tecmo titles, including Dead or Alive. In all modes, Pang (the in-game currency) can be earned and later spent on additional clothing or gear. In single player, these include a story mode, stroke play mode, and match mode, while in multiplayer, Balloon Pop mode replaces the story mode.

It's not Links, but it's not supposed to be. So long as they get the controls right, it'll be a blast. We're only up to Season 2 here in the west. Hopefully it'll include some of the fantastic Pangya Season 3 courses.

Expect nods to all of Tecmo's games, plus lots of new stuff and the collectables from the PC game. We know that the Wii version includes a ton of collectables, and we've already seen costumes from Dead or Alive in there. The "pay for stuff" thing is going to be toned down a fucking ton what with the game not being freeware or online-capable, from what we've heard - though Tecmo have suggested that downloadable costumes and so forth may well be offered over WiiConnect. The Wii version has massively superior graphics and effects to the somewhat outdated PC version, with all that funky bloom shit we've all come to love so much and of course, widescreen. So, the Wii game dispenses with the online play (boo), and inserts the Wii control scheme in place of the slider (yay). What makes Pangya, besides the awesome graphics and happy happy atmosphere are the courses - they're better than any other fantasy golf game and there are a fucking TON of them. There are tons of little toys and costumes to collect (not all of which have to be paid for with real cash) and it has the hugest community you could ever imagine. The graphics are fucking aces, with cutesy characters and bright, shiny courses. Similar to a lot of golf games, it uses the three-click slider control, where one button press starts the swing, the second stops it and the third sets the hook or slice. They're not essential, but on the higher levels (and I mean the super high levels) you'll get fucked if you're not prepared to drop a bit of cash fortunately for the most part you can just play for fun without worrying about spending money.

Make no mistake, this game alone will shift Wiis by the ton.Ī quick bit about the PC game: Pangya (named Albatross 18 in the west) is a free download, but certain items (clothes, power-ups, equipment) have to be purchased with real money. I know, because I play the PC game, along with like seven million other people - it's the most ridiculously popular golf game imaginable in Japan are Korea. Fuck off.Ī new golf game is always cause for a "hmmm?", and this one is especially good. Sure, we're likely to get a Tiger Woods game that uses the Wiimote like a golf club within the first year, but for now it's just Pangya that gives us the chance to swing the controller like a club and play proper golf. Super Swing Golf Pangya is by far my most eagerly anticipated game for the Wii.
