It became a vibrant, zen-like state to unwind to. Although I can respect the Developer for having limitations. Even a guide on creating special structures would have been handy. I wished I could see some town folk exploring their new home, ships passing the lighthouse and more variation in special structures. It was still lacking life, feeling empty. It was those little details that were fantastic, remarkable to bring so much character and life into this tool. Having to follow contours of a grid, choose which pastels I wanted to combine in a dense part of town to contribute towards its uniqueness and beauty, the randomly assigned gardens, roofs or seagulls perched around, the plants or manhole covers in that appear in the streets, washing lines attached to buildings or simply building something with no architectural logic. My verdict? I liked Townscaper when I viewed it as a tool than compared to a game. I was prepared for a lack of features, special structures and accepted that the map was randomly generated with the intention of having to incorporate asymmetrical designs into my costal town.
